How to transfer vehicle ownership at the LTO
The papers buyer and seller need to move the registration into the new owner’s name.
Papers to prepare
- A notarized deed of absolute sale signed by the registered owner and the buyer.
- The original OR/CR (official receipt and certificate of registration).
- Valid government IDs of the seller and the buyer.
- A PNP-HPG motor vehicle clearance certificate.
- Engine and chassis number stencils, and compulsory third-party liability (CTPL) insurance.
At the LTO
- File the transfer at an LTO district office and pay the transfer fees.
- The new certificate of registration shows the buyer as owner. Keep copies of everything until it is issued.
- Transfer soon after the sale: until it is done, the seller remains the registered owner.
