Safety tips for sellers
How to sell a vehicle safely: meeting buyers, payment, OR/CR and common scams.
Meeting buyers
- Meet in a busy public place such as a mall car park or a police station, in daylight.
- Bring someone with you, and go along on test drives after checking the buyer’s driver’s licence.
Getting paid
- Accept a bank transfer or manager’s check only after the money shows in your own account.
- Never pay a “release fee”, “verification fee” or courier charge to receive a payment.
- Throttle never holds payments and never asks you to pay to release one.
Papers and transfer
- Hand over the OR/CR, keys and a signed deed of sale only after payment clears.
- Keep a copy of the deed of sale and the buyer’s ID until the LTO transfer is done.
Scams to watch for
- Buyers who offer more than your asking price, or who want to pay through a “courier” or agent.
- Messages asking you to continue on another app, click a link or share a one-time code.
- Report suspicious buyers from the conversation or the ad page.
